The two major Image types are vector and bitmap. A bitmap image is basically a map of bits, these bits different colors but all the same size and shape. A vector image is a image made of many smaller images put together and overlapping. In a vector image you can overlap because that is how they made but a bitmap image since it is made of small squares you can not overlap. A bitmap image since the squares (pixels) are one certain size is less detailed if you change the size while a vector image keeps it resolution which ever way you chose to move it.
